BJP MP Arvind Dharmapuri on Monday took a dig at Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, equating his hands to that of “a drunkard”. Dharmapuri said that if the “Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s steering wheel is KCR hands, then it means it is in a drunkard’s hand”.

Dharmapuri’s harsh statement was prompted by KCR’s son and Telangana minister KT Rama Rao’s (KTR) recent comment, alleging the BRS government will be in safe hands until it remains under Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. However, the BJP government’s steering, he alleged, is not controlled by “PM Narendra Modi but by industrialist Adani”.

In response, Dharmapuri retorted, “If the party’s (BRS) steering wheel is in KCR’s hands, it means it is in a drunkard’s hand, and the party is not in safe hands.” He further added, “The most cultureless language in the entire political history of this country is spoken by you… You are nowhere close to the tip of PM Modi’s toe.”

He responded to the Prime Minister’s comments made during his Mahabubnagar speech on Sunday, indirectly criticising the control of the ‘car’ symbol (associated with BRS) not being in KCR’s hands. Although not explicitly mentioning AIMIM, this remark echoes a familiar theme often reiterated by BJP leaders in the state.

Meanwhile, KTR also took a swipe at the Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Mission on Monday. “On Gandhi Jayanti today, some leaders in Delhi are chanting slogans of Swachh Bharat, but there won’t be much substantial work related to it. It will mostly involve clicking pictures and remembering Gandhiji here and there for namesake”.

KTR countered PM Modi’s remarks by stating that they have undertaken the Swachh Telangana initiative, keeping Gandhi’s views of Swachta in mind. PM Modi has also encouraged people to participate in the cleanliness drive, emphasizing that Swachh Bharat is a collective responsibility.

Additionally, PM Modi himself joined the Swachh Bharat campaign and met Ankit Baiyanpuriya, a social media influencer promoting fitness among youth through a 75-day challenge.
