Haryana CM Updates: A day after replacing Manohar Khattar as the Chief Minister of Haryana, Nayab Saini, the Kurukshetra MP who served as the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s state unit, on Wednesday won the floor test on the floor of the House to prove the majority of his government. The development comes a day after the BJP leader was sworn-in as the Chief Minister of the state following Manohar Khattar’s resignation The BJP, which has claimed the backing of 48 MLAs in the 90-member Assembly, received a shot in the arm as 4 rebels of the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) defied the party whip to “remain absent” from the House and arrived in the Haryana Assembly ahead of voting on the trust motion.
The Congress has 30 MLAs in the Assembly, the JJP has 10, and the INLD has 1. The BJP, on the other hand has 41 MLAs and is banking on the support of 7 Independent legislators to reach the majority mark of 46 after snapping ties with Dushyant Chautala’s JJP. The trust vote in the state Assembly comes a day after two-term CM Manohar Khattar resigned from his post along with the entire state Cabinet, paving way for the formation of a new government under Saini’s leadership. Khattar is now tipped to contest the Lok Sabha elections and may be fielded from Saini’s Lok Sabha seat Kurukshetra.

Haryana CM-designate Nayab Saini on Tuesday met Governor Bandaru Dattatreya and staked claim to form the government. Notably, the BJP has severed ties with the JJP and is set to form a government in the state with the help of Independents.
Haryana BJP chief and a prominent OBC face, Nayab Saini will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of the state, replacing Manohar Khattar. A new cabinet is set to be formed under his leadership after all ministers in the Khattar cabinet also submitted their resignation to the Governor. Hours later, Saini was elected as the new leader of the BJP legislature party.
Some legislators of the Dushyant Chautala-led JJP are believed to be in touch with the BJP, sources said, adding that some of them may be considering to quit the party. Four MLAs skipped a meeting of the JJP in New Delhi earlier today.

At least four MLAs of the JJP stayed away from a party meeting in New Delhi amid indications that they may be considering quitting the party. The development comes as troubles mount for Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala. The MLAs who skipped the meeting include Narnaund MLA Ram Kumar Gautam, Barwala MLA Jogi Ram Sihag, Guhla MLA Ishwar Singh and Julana MLA Amarjeet Dhanda. According to The Indian Express, key Dushyant aide Devender SIngh Babli may also join the rebel group soon.
Congress leader Deepender Hooda said that Tuesday's political developments in Haryana mirror the people's yearning for change. "The public was upset with the present government in the state. We are keeping a close eye on all developments," he said.
The Haryana government will see Manohar Khattar's return to the post of Chief Minister, claimed BJP MLA Krishan Lal Middha. "...Our support is with Manohar Lal Khattar and he will take oath as CM for the third time and then later after the assembly elections, he will take oath for the fourth time...," he said.
With the BJP set to choose a new Chief Minister for Haryana at a meeting of its legislature party today, there is no clarity on whether Khattar would return to the chair or contest the Lok Sabha elections.
The buzz around Khattar's Lok Sabha foray gained momentum following his resignation as the Chief Minister. The Central Election Committee of the BJP met on Monday evening to decide on the second list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections. Khattar's name is among those finalised, reports claimed.
