In a setback to the BJP, former Haryana minister and BJP leader Bachan Singh Arya resigned from the party. Bachan announced his resignation in an open letter later on Saturday. However, he did not specify any reason behind his resignation.
Arya, a prominent BJP leader from Safidon in Jind, Haryana, announced his resignation shortly after the party released its initial list for the upcoming Assembly elections, where his name was not there. In the list revealed on Wednesday, the BJP chose former JJP MLA Ramkumar Gautam as their candidate for Safidon.
In his resignation letter, Arya, a former Haryana minister, gave up both his primary membership and his position on the state working committee. Arya, who had narrowly lost the 2019 election by 3,000 votes, had been actively preparing for the 2024 polls. Speculation suggests he may soon join Congress.
Arya’s resignation over candidacy issues is not an isolated incident. Before him, leaders like Laxman Napa and Ranjit Singh Chautala also left the party due to ticket denials. Chautala, a Haryana Cabinet Minister, resigned on September 5 after being passed over for the Rania Assembly seat, which went to Shishpal Kamboj.
Similarly, sitting MLA Lakshman Napa, who was not granted a ticket for the upcoming October 5 Haryana Assembly elections, resigned from the party on September 6.
