Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday relaunched the U-special buses, dedicated for the college and university students of the national capital. She inaugurated the bus service, which was closed in 2020, from the Delhi University Sports Complex. The CM recalled her days in DU and how the U-special buses were more than just road on wheels for the students in those days.
“Today, I inaugurated the U-Special EV bus service from the Delhi University Sports Complex. This service which was closed for years has now been started again for the students of Delhi University,” she said while addressing a gathering.

“When I left the university in 1998, this U-Special took with it the sweetest memories of my college days. Today, when I am back among you, I have brought with me a U-Special equipped with AC, FM radio, panic button and state-of-the-art facilities,” she added.
‘Govt has transformed power of each of your votes’
CM Rekha Gupta said in just six months, her government has transformed the power of “each of your votes into convenience and change for you.” She said the U-special are not just buses, but “a moving world of friendship, gossip and laughter.”
“Where we used to play antakshari sitting on the stairs, today you will listen to FM but the feelings will remain the same. Now this U-Special will take you from the college gate to your home safely and conveniently,” she said.

CM Gupta added that her government is also working on metro passes for students, to make both education and travel easy.
Gupta was accompanied by MP Manoj Tiwari, Delhi Government Cabinet Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh and Timarpur MLA Surya Prakash Khatri and other dignitaries.
25 buses launched, will connect multiple routes
Launching 25 EV buses under the U-special scheme, CM Rekha Gupta said that the buses will ensure safe, reliable and dedicated connectivity for students.

These new buses will directly connect North Campus, South Campus, JNU, IIT Delhi and other institutions. The schedule of these buses has been kept in sync with college timings to provide maximum convenience to students.
