Former Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar, who resigned on July 21 citing health reasons, has vacated his official residence, according to CNN-News18.
Dhankhar began packing on the very night of his resignation when he sent his letter to President Droupadi Murmu, India Today reported citing sources.
Shift to New Enclave in 2023
The 74-year-old leader had moved to the newly-constructed Vice President Enclave on Church Road near the Parliament House complex in April last year. The VP Enclave, housing the Vice President’s residence and office, was developed under the Central Vista redevelopment project.
Meanwhile, officials confirmed on August 30 that Dhankhar has applied for pension as a former legislator in Rajasthan.
Pension Resumed as Former MLA
Dhankhar had served as a Congress MLA representing Kishangarh from 1993 to 1998. He received pension as a former legislator until July 2019, but it was discontinued after his appointment as the Governor of West Bengal.
With his tenure as Vice President ending following his resignation citing “health issues” on July 21, Dhankhar has applied afresh to the Rajasthan Assembly secretariat seeking resumption of his pension, the officials said. The process has already been initiated and the pension will be applicable from the date his resignation was accepted.
As per rules, a former MLA in Rajasthan is entitled to a pension starting at Rs 35,000 per month for a single term, which increases with age and additional terms. Those above 70 years receive a 20 per cent hike.
Officials said Dhankhar, now 74, will receive Rs 42,000 per month as pension.
