AAP MP Sanjay Singh launched a scathing attack on the BJP, claiming that despite efforts by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the party will be “wiped out” in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Speaking to ANI, Singh stated, “Even if UP CM Yogi Adityanath, PM Modi, or even the US President campaign, the BJP will face defeat in Delhi.”
Singh also raised concerns about the Election Commission’s capability to ensure fair elections, highlighting alleged violations in the New Delhi constituency. “BJP candidates openly distribute items like ‘chadar,’ ‘lota,’ ‘chashma,’ shoes, and money. If the Election Commission, based in New Delhi, cannot curb such discrepancies locally, how can it guarantee free and fair elections nationwide?” he questioned.
Regarding the removal of Punjab Police security for Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Singh accused the Delhi Police of forcibly withdrawing the cover. He also criticised the Election Commission for inaction, alleging that “goons armed with sticks and rods” were active in the area. “We’ve complained to the Election Commission, but they remain silent,” he added.
Meanwhile, UP CM Yogi Adityanath took a dig at Kejriwal, challenging him to address pollution in the Yamuna and accusing AAP of facilitating Aadhaar cards for Bangladeshi infiltrators. Comparing Delhi’s streets to Noida’s, Adityanath pointed out “piles of garbage” as evidence of mismanagement.
On the same day, Kejriwal claimed that his public meeting in Hari Nagar was disrupted by opposition supporters, who also attacked his car. In a post on X, he blamed Union Home Minister Amit Shah for using the Delhi Police as the BJP’s “personal army.” He also expressed disappointment over the Election Commission’s inaction despite repeated attacks on AAP leaders.
Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit further alleged that both BJP and AAP have been distributing money to influence voters, with no intervention from the Election Commission despite complaints.
The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with vote counting on February 8. A total of 699 candidates are contesting 70 seats. While AAP has dominated the last two elections, winning 67 and 62 seats in 2015 and 2020, respectively, the BJP managed only three and eight seats. Congress, once dominant in Delhi, has not won a single seat in the past two elections.
