Amid the Delhi Assembly Election vote counting, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh backed Arvind Kejriwal’s allegations against the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding the refusal to upload Form 17C. This form contains the data of the total votes polled by Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in each Delhi Assembly constituency.
Singh questioned the ECI’s actions, stating, “Even a class 10th student can add up all votes and tell us, why didn’t they (Election Commission) do it?”
Kejriwal’s Criticism of ECI
Earlier, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal accused the ECI of “refusing to upload” the crucial form. Kejriwal posted on X, expressing disappointment over the ECI’s refusal to upload Form 17C, despite several requests. The form contains the total number of votes cast in each assembly constituency, which Kejriwal argues is vital for ensuring transparency in the electoral process.
“EC has refused to upload form 17C and the number of votes polled per booth in each assembly despite several requests,” read Kejriwal’s post on X.
In response to the ECI’s refusal, AAP launched a website to provide copies of Form 17C for every assembly constituency in Delhi. Kejriwal promised to present the data for every constituency and polling booth, enabling voters to access the information in a clear, tabulated format. He stressed that such transparency should have come from the Election Commission itself, but since it hasn’t, AAP has taken the initiative.
As the Delhi Assembly election results are set to be counted, candidates from AAP, BJP, and Congress are expressing confidence in their respective performances. AAP is seeking a third consecutive term, while BJP aims to return to power after more than two decades. Exit polls have predicted a BJP edge, but AAP leaders believe the polls have historically underestimated their success.
