The Congress on Tuesday strongly criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) demand of a referendum for full statehood for Delhi, questioning whether the Arvind Kejriwal-led party would also support a similar referendum for Jammu and Kashmir.
“Does the Aam Aadmi Party support the demand for a referendum plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir? How does it distinguish itself from that demand, and if it does, does it not put them in the same category as the All Party Hurriyat Conference and various other pro-Pakistani groups, who have been demanding a referendum in the Valley?” Congress leader Manish Tewari said.
Kejriwal has reportedly written to Delhi’s Urban Development Department to explore how a Greece-style referendum can be held in the national capital on the issue of full statehood.
