Two days after the incident where a Bengaluru-based startup CEO was arrested for allegedly killing her four-year-old son, the Goa Police have now discovered two empty bottles of cough syrup from the service apartment that was rented by her. This discovery suggests that she might have administered a heavy dose of the medicine to him, indicating a pre-planned murder, an official said on Wednesday.

According to officials, the postmortem examination revealed that the child was smothered to death, potentially with either a cloth or a pillow.

The accused, Suchana Seth, allegedly killed her son at a Candolim apartment in Goa, placing the body in a bag before transporting it to Karnataka in a taxi, as per police. Later, she was arrested in Chitradurga, Karnataka, on Monday night and brought to Goa on Tuesday.

A senior police officer told PTI that during the inspection of the service apartment where the woman stayed, two empty bottles of cough syrup (one large and one small) were discovered. “The post-mortem conducted on the body has indicated the possibility that the child might have been smothered to death and there were no signs of struggle,” he mentioned.

Officials are now examining the possibility of a heavy dose of cough syrup given to the child before he was put to sleep. The staff at the service apartment indicated that Seth requested the purchase of a small bottle of cough syrup, claiming she had a cough. It is presumed that she carried the larger bottle herself.

Meanwhile, the accused has denied her involvement in the crime and claimed that the child was already deceased when she woke up. Police said Seth “She claimed her son was asleep and she did not know how he died,” a police officer told The Indian Express.

“We don’t buy her theory. Further investigation will reveal the motive behind killing the child. As of now, we know that she and her husband were estranged, because of which she might have done this,” PTI quoted an officer as saying.

Seth checked into the service apartment on January 6 and departed for Bengaluru on January 8 via taxi. Following her arrest, a Mapusa court in Goa remanded her to police custody for six days.

The child’s father, Venkat Raman, arrived in Chitradurga on Tuesday and received his son’s body after postmortem. The last rites of the deceased child were conducted by his father.
