DUSU Elections 2023: DUSU held elections after a 3-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. ABVP won three out four seats. ABVP’s candidate Tushar Dedha won President’s post and Abhi Dahiya was chosen as vice-president. Aparajita won the post of Secretary and Sachin Baisla got the post of Joint Secretary. The voting for Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) began today, September 22 in two slots for morning and evening batch students.
Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda have hailed ABVP for its victory. After winning three seats in the DUSU, elections, the ABVP supporters celebrated at the North Campus.
As per the schedule, the morning batch students casted their vote until 1 pm while evening batch students started voting at 3 pm till 7:30 pm. There are twenty four students standing up four positions, President, Vice President, Secretary and Joint Secretary.
The major parties that are participating in DUSU 2023 elections are – Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Congress-affiliated National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), CPI (M)-backed Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and CPI (ML) Liberation-affiliated All India Students’ Association (AISA).
Almost one lakh students of Delhi University will be casting their vote today on electronic voting machines (EVM) in the North Campus. To facilitate traffic and security of students the administration has deployed hundreds of Delhi Police officials. The university has also trained teachers and other working staff with the help of Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) for the polls.
In a recent tweet by Delhi Police on X, formerly called Twitter, the police had issued an advisory plan to regulate traffic on roads and restricted commercial vehicles to enter the campus roads. The tweet says, “Today DUSU election is to be held in Delhi North Campus, Delhi University. Commuters are advised to avoid following routes for their convenience: There is No Entry for Commercial Vehicles in Delhi University area and Chhatra Marg is completely closed for all Motorists.”
On Thursday, two student parties,Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), were seen involved in disruption and violence in a viral video surfaced on Instagram. However, police have yet to confirm if the violence was related to DUSU elections or not but it has sparked rays of heated dialogues between the parties.
