A 22-year-old man was fatally stabbed over 25 times, allegedly by a group of teenagers, and his body then dragged onto the road until he died in a Southeast Delhi locality in the national capital.
All five accused in the case have been taken into custody. The victim, identified as Gaurav, 22, was attacked on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.
The deceased, who sustained his family by taking on various odd jobs, had recently clashed with a group of local boys over minor disputes. They fought Monday-Tuesday after which Gaurav allegedly scolded the boys and hit them, police said, according to The Indian Express.
Alert patrolling policemen caught the culprits in the act, following which the juveniles attempted an escape. After a 2-km chase, three of them were apprehended. Meanwhile, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

The motive for the attack was identified as an attempt to settle scores.
DCP (Southeast) Rajesh Deo said that two head constables patrolling the area witnessed the assailants dragging the injured Gaurav “He was badly injured and unconscious… The boys saw the police team and ran toward the NTPC (station). The team acted in time and chased them. Three of them were caught… The man, however, had died,” said Deo.
A video from the scene captures three boys running near the NTPC station, with a police officer in pursuit. The officer successfully apprehended one of the boys. Police noted the involvement of the area Station House Officer and other personnel in capturing the teenagers.
An official said that the trio admitted to having a confrontation with Gaurav and sought revenge. “They stabbed him multiple times. We questioned them and two of their associates who aided them were also caught,” added Deo.
A blood-stained weapon used in the crime was recovered from their possession. Later, the body was sent to the AIIMS mortuary for post-mortem.
