India expressed deep concern on Saturday over the escalating tensions in West Asia, urging all parties to exercise restraint and return to dialogue and diplomacy. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) released a statement emphasizing the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
“Our Missions in the region are in contact with the Indian community,” the MEA assured.
The statement follows Israel’s airstrikes on military sites in Iran on Saturday, which have heightened fears of a full-blown war between the two heavily armed nations. Israel claimed the targeted facilities were used to manufacture missiles fired at it.
“We are deeply concerned by the evolving escalation in West Asia and its ramifications for peace and stability in the region and beyond,” the MEA stated. “We reiterate our call to all concerned to exercise restraint and return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy. The ongoing hostilities are to nobody’s benefit, even as innocent hostages and civilian populations continue to suffer,” it added.
India’s stance aligns with its long-standing policy of advocating for peaceful conflict resolution and stability in West Asia. The escalating situation in West Asia has already led to a significant rise in geopolitical uncertainties, raising concerns about potential disruptions in global oil supply chains and increased volatility in international markets. Observers warn that prolonged hostilities could further destabilise the region and exacerbate humanitarian crises.
India, which maintains strong diplomatic and economic ties with several nations in West Asia, continues to monitor the developments closely, urging all stakeholders to prioritise dialogue for the sake of peace and stability.
