Better than before? would be the right way to describe Nikon D7000 DSLR. It has improved considerably from its predecessor D90. But still, like its predecessor, the battery is not very impressive but in return has new features in this camera, which makes it very exciting and thus take a new position in Nikon?s DSLR lineup, between the D90 and D300S.
The build quality of this camera is similar to D90; in your hands, it feel very good and the grip is very comfortable as well as secure. We can say that the Nikon D7000 and D90 are quite similar, in terms of its control layout?the D7000 is very close to the D90. Some controls have changed slightly like the D90?s ?LV? button becomes a spring-loaded switch, whereas the number of control points is the same. Another added feature in the physical aspects in D7000 is that it now has two memory card slots, which will give you more options to play around with and a better backup too. If we look into the overall dimensions of the D7000, they are very similar to the older D90. But the heavier, magnesium alloy body shell and thicker rubber on the hand grip give it a more serious feel. And another exciting feature about this camera is its optical view finder which delivers 100 % coverage, that you can get only in pro DSLR cameras. The D7000?s U1 and U2 option dial is another good feature in this category, which now enables you to capture images with two preset settings options.
The two biggest factors of the performance of this camera is the speed and the image quality which is greatly improved in this camera. The newly developed DX-format CMOS sensor with 16.2 effective megapixels, is also much more sensitive and delivers a base ISO-range of 100-6400 ISO with the possibility of ?boosting? the sensitivity up to 25600 ISO. The new high shutter speed is 1/8000 seconds and a major update is 39 f point. So it makes this camera really amazing for just about any type of photography that you want to do, it is small, light weight and easy to carry. Surprisingly, it is as fast as D300s and has a fast yet clear auto focus system for lower light.
Photography with Nikon is best suited for sports, wildlife, landscape and still life. The D7000 records images on SD/SDHC/SDHC cards via not one but two slots housed in the large right-hand compartment. This allows you to use two cards in tandem, with the ability to overflow images onto the second card, backup images from the first to the second, or save RAW to slot 1 and JPEG to slot 2 or you can save photos on one card and Full HD video clips on the other card. One can also set up your camera so that one slot functions as a back-up.
The image quality just surpasses any of that in its field, the high ISO and even in the mid-range ISO the image quality in this camera is pretty outstanding. The video quality of Nikon D7000 is average, you?ll hear the lens painfully trying to focus in your audio.
Key highlights of the D7000 include full 1080p HD video with full-time autofocus and manual exposure control, an ISO range of 100-25600, which is the widest of any Nikon DX camera, a new 2,016-pixel 3D colour matrix metering system, new EXPEED 2 image-processing engine, new 39-point auto-focus system with 3D tracking, 14-bit analogue-to-digital conversion, 6fps continuous shooting, dust?and moisture-sealed magnesium alloy body, 921k dot 3-inch LCD screen, and dual memory card slots.
