Two women were killed in separate incidents in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Friday and Saturday, allegedly by Maoists who accused them of being police informers.

On Saturday night, Yalam Sukra, 40, from Lodedh village under Madded police station limits, was abducted by a group of Maoists. They reportedly took her to a jungle hilltop, three kilometres away, and killed her by slitting her throat. Her body was discovered on Sunday morning with a note left by the Maoists, according to The Indian Express.

The note, written in red ink and attributed to the Madded area committee of Maoists, alleged that Sukra was providing police with information that led to a December 1 anti-Naxal operation by Telangana’s Greyhound forces along the Bijapur-Telangana border. The operation resulted in the deaths of seven Maoists.

The Maoists claimed she was sentenced to death in a “people’s court” for her actions.

In another incident on Friday night, 45-year-old Laxmi Padam, an anganwadi worker from Timapur village, was dragged out of her home in front of her family and strangled to death. The Maoists, who reportedly belonged to the same area committee, accused her of being a police informer.

According to police sources, Padam’s family, including her children, tried to intervene but were assaulted and pushed away by the Maoists.

These killings bring the total number of Maoist-related deaths in Bijapur to five in just one week. The Bastar region, which includes Bijapur, has seen significant violence this year, with at least 64 civilians, 210 Maoists, and 18 security personnel killed so far.
