Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra, who was removed from the Lok Sabha last month, has been served an eviction notice with ‘immediate action’ by the Directorate of Estates on Tuesday, according to sources in the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry, PTI reported.
Moitra has been asked to vacate the bungalow immediately, which had been allotted to her as an MP.
“Since the eviction notice was issued to her (Moitra) on Tuesday, a team of officials from the directorate of estates will now be sent to ensure that the government bungalow is vacated at the earliest,” a source told PTI.
Mahua Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha on December 8, after which she was asked to vacate the government bungalow allotted to her by January 7. Moitra received subsequent notices from the Directorate of Estates (DoE) on January 8 and January 12, seeking her response.
On January 4, the Delhi High Court advised Moitra to approach the DoE with a request to extend her stay in the government accommodation. Justice Subramoniun Prasad acknowledged that rules permitted authorities to allow a resident to overstay for up to six months under exceptional circumstances, subject to certain charges.
While addressing Moitra’s challenge to the official intimation, the court stated the need for the Directorate of Estates to follow due process and issue notices before eviction.

The court acknowledged DoE’s right to request residents to vacate but also highlighted their right to seek an extension under specific conditions. While allowing Moitra to withdraw her petition, the court urged DoE to consider her request “after applying its own mind”.
Mahua Moitra was ousted from Parliament in December 2023 for allegedly sharing login credentials and asking questions on behalf of businessman Darshan Hiranandani, potentially for financial gain. She was found guilty of “unethical conduct” in the House. However, she declined all the allegations terming it as a ‘political move’ against her.
