What hit BJP’s position in Haryana?

Several factors have contributed to he shift in the air in the state, hitting BJP’s stand. The political climate in Haryana began to turn against the BJP following the farmers’ protests against the now-repealed three farm laws, protests largely led by the Jat community. Many Jats were frustrated with the BJP’s decision to appoint Manohar Lal Khattar, a Punjab Khatri, as Chief Minister in 2014.

The resentment deepened last year during the wrestlers’ protests, which sought justice over alleged sexual harassment by former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. For wrestlers like Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik, the protests became not only a fight for justice but also a quest to restore Jat pride.
