Bihar Election 2025 Updates: RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s elder son and Janshakti Janta Dal leader Tej Pratap Yadav has been booked for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) while filing his nomination papers from the Mahua Assembly seat in Bihar’s Vaishali district, the police said.
According to a statement from the district police on Sunday, the Circle Officer of Mahua filed a complaint after a video went viral on social media. The clip showed Tej Pratap using an SUV with a police logo and a beacon light during a procession on October 16, when he was submitting his nomination documents. The police said they investigated the matter and found that the police logo and beacon light on the vehicle were privately used. Following this, a case was registered against him for violating the election code of conduct.
Tej Pratap Yadav had formed his own party, the Janshakti Janta Dal, after being expelled from the RJD by his father, Lalu Prasad, on May 25 for six years. His expulsion came after he reportedly admitted to being in a relationship with a woman. Soon after, Tej Pratap deleted a Facebook post about the matter, claiming that his account had been hacked. Lalu Prasad, meanwhile, publicly distanced himself from his elder son, citing what he called his irresponsible behaviour.
A few days after his expulsion, Tej Pratap alleged that there was a conspiracy to create differences between him and his younger brother, Tejashwi Yadav. He shared his frustration through several posts on X, where he blamed the internal rift on “Jaichand,” a term often used to refer to betrayers.

There is no bitterness in the alliance. Unlike the NDA, we are not fielding candidates against one another within the coalition. It is not like the NDA where people such as Chirag Paswan say things like ‘it is unfortunate that Nitish Kumar is the chief minister of North Bihar’, nobody is saying that here. Everyone is united in one voice. Under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, everyone is talking things through fully. Yes, every party wants to contest more seats. All differences have been resolved. After Diwali, the alliance will, with full strength, remove the seat usurpers. We will remove from power those under whose rule nine crore litres of liquor are consumed by rats. Under them, 130 bridges worth ₹7,581 crore have been eaten by rats. We will oust such corrupt people. Those who annually hand over ₹50,000 crore to liquor mafias in Bihar, these looters will be removed from office, and Nitish Kumar will be unseated. On the 14th the alliance will have the chief minister. The coming time will belong to the alliance.”
