Assam: A sex tape has been leaked on social media involving Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ramakanta Dewri who is an MLA from the Morigaon Assembly seat. The video shows the MLA in a hotel room with a woman in a compromising position. However, the minister has denied involvement and said that this is all a conspiracy to defame his image in an interview with a local TV channel. He said, “It is purely a conspiracy hatched against me by my political adversaries to malign my image as I am a contender for a berth in the ministry, which will be expanded soon.” Demanding an inquiry including a forensic test he said, “Let there be a forensic test of the video. If it establishes that I am the man featuring in it, I will quit politics.”

“Four compact discs (CDs) of the video were distributed to four local TV channels with three airing it”, Morigaon district Superintendent of Police (SP) Swapnail Deka said. He also said that Dewri has filed a criminal case against the editors of the three local TV channels that who had broadcast the video. Assam BJP unit president Ranjit Das expressed concern over the video “tarnishing the image of BJP Morigaon MLA.” In an interview with PTI, he said, “fabricated video footage against Dewri telecast in some TV channels of Assam is totally false and assassinates his character.”
Ramakanta Dewri was elected in the Assam Legislative Assembly election in 2016 from the Marigaon constituency.
