CapitaLand’s wholly-owned serviced residence business unit, The Ascott has pledged its solidarity towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Swachh Bharat’ Mission. As part of the campaign, the staff of Ascott’s 187-unit serviced residence, Somerset Greenways Chennai organised a clean-up of MRC Nagar area recently, where the property is located. The staff were divided into three teams and allocated specific areas to clean up. The staff, armed with brooms, rakes and biodegradable garbage bags were seen clearing the area. Organic waste from the streets was collected separately and fed into the Organic Converter at Somerset Greenways Chennai to be converted into natural manure for plants. After the clean-up activity, the staff took a Pledge and made a collective promise to continue their efforts to keep their community, city and country clean.

Speaking on the occasion, Ajit Koushik, area general manager, India, Ascott said, “In 2008, Capitaland embarked on a global sustainability drive, ‘Go Green @ Ascott’, as it strives to become the world’s leading green serviced residence company. The cleaning up of MRC Nagar as part of the ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign follows a long list of conservational activities that Ascott has already been organising in Chennai and Bengaluru where our serviced residences are located. This is not just a one-day activity for us. As part of our ‘Swachh Bharat’ initiatives, we will be collecting organic waste from the area and converting to natural manure with the help of our in-house Organic Converter. We will also continue this clean-up activity once a month and ensure that this community is spic and span under our watch.”
