After almost 24 hours of radio silence, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday spoke about the party’s victory alongside National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir and also shed light on the “unexpected” defeat in the Haryana Assembly elections.
Taking to X, Rahul Gandhi said in a post, “My heartfelt thanks to the people of Jammu and Kashmir – India’s victory in the state is a victory of the Constitution, a victory of democratic self-respect.”
“We are analysing the unexpected results of Haryana. We will inform the Election Commission about the complaints coming from many assembly constituencies,” he added.
The National Congress-Congress alliance won a total of 48 seats out of 90 in J&K Assembly elections. However, Congress had to face disappointment in Haryana as it could only manage to win on 37 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won for an unprecedented third time in the state by logging win in 48 seats, giving a nail-biting finish to the Assembly elections.
Praising the party workers for their hard work, Rahul Gandhi added, “Heartfelt thanks to all the people of Haryana for their support and to our Babbar Sher workers for their tireless hard work. We will continue this fight for rights, for social and economic justice, for truth, and will keep raising your voice.”

He added that the party would “continue this fight for rights and social justice”.
Exit polls inaccurate, yet again
Rahul Gandhi’s remarks came a day after the Congress – projected to get a clear majority in Haryana in the exit polls – fell flat on its expectations. Early celebrations by party workers, even before the counting started, turned to introspection at the Congress office on Tuesday as the BJP undid its rival’s gains and bagged its third straight victory in the state.
Several Congress leaders raised serious doubts over the counting process yesterday and said it would not accept the results. A senior leader said the results went against the ground reality and that the party has received “very serious complaints” on the process of counting and functioning of voting machines in at least three districts.
The claim was made after the Election Commission rejected a Congress memorandum alleging a slowdown in the updation of the counting figures in Haryana.
