Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has yet again highlighted the deepening trouble with Bengaluru‘s infrastructure, saying that the decades of depleting infra, as garbage must be taken care of by the present government. In a post on social media platform X, Shaw said the situation at present is “dire” due to the “failures” of the previous governments in Karnataka.

“We are in this dire situation because of the past Govt’s failure to act in time. This Government has the opportunity to change this and act fast to fix these decades of deteriorating infrastructure and garbage management,” she said.

The post comes amid a raging debate on potholes, traffic and other concerns in Bengaluru, which have always been a topic of discussion. Time and again, IT workers keep sharing their pain due to the shoddy infrastructure of the IT city, calling for a rehaul in everything.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday appealed to the citizens to focus on rebuilding Bengaluru together, saying the government is working with ‘’focus and urgency’’ to improve civic infrastructure.

Karnataka Deputy CM urges unity

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Shivakumar stated Rs 1,100 crore has been sanctioned for repairments of roads, over 10,000 potholes identified and more than 5,000 fixed on priority. “Bengaluru has given opportunities, identity and success to millions-it deserves collective effort, not criticism,” he posted on his official social media account, adding that major infrastructure works, including the CSB-KR Puram redevelopment and elevated corridors, are underway.

”Instead of tearing Bengaluru down, let’s build it up together,” Shivakumar wrote in his post. He further said that the city’s East Corporation under the Greater Bengaluru Authority will retain Rs 1,673 crore of its own revenue to directly boost infrastructure in 50 wards, benefiting major IR corridors. “The world sees India through Bengaluru, and we owe it to our city to rise united,” he mentioned.

Biocon chief’s post on  Bengaluru’s infrastructure

Shivakumar’s statement came after Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw drew attention to Bengaluru’s civic problems in a social media post. Sharing feedback from an overseas business visitor, she posted on X:

‘’I had an overseas business visitor in Biocon Park who stated, ‘Why are the roads so bad and why is there so much garbage around? Doesn’t the Govt want to support investment? I have just come from China and can’t understand why India can’t get its act together, especially when the winds are favourable?’’

The post ignited a widespread debate online. Commenting on it, IT and BT minister Priyank Karge told ANI the visitor “may not have seen the complete picture,” adding, “The work is in progress, and we are growing at a rapid pace.”

Earlier, Shivakumar had attributed the city’s pothole issue to the previous BJP government, stating that the Congress administration was acting swiftly to solve the problem.
