At least seven school kids were injured, along with their driver, after their van was hit by a minibus on Tuesday afternoon. The incident took place in the Delhi Cantonment area when the children, who are students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, were returning home.
According to officials, the accused, who was driving the minibus, has been identified as Naveen Singh, aged 25, a driver of a private school. He is reported to have been driving fast and on the wrong side when his minibus rammed into the van in front of the Radha Krishna Mandir area of Sadar Bazar Road, Indian Express reported.
DCP (Southwest) Manoj C said, “We received a PCR call at 1.18 pm. The van was ferrying students aged six to seven years. The investigation officer, along with other staff, rushed to the spot… The van was completely damaged from the front, and its driver and children were injured.”
Police stated that the injured children were immediately taken to Army Cantt Hospital, and their parents were informed about the incident. Later, they were taken to another hospital by their parents. All the children are now out of danger.
“They study at KV No. 1 in Delhi Cantt. The van driver, Balvir Singh (21), was taken to DDU Hospital for further treatment. He is severely injured and is undergoing treatment,” an officer added.
Police said that the minibus driver is a contractual employee, and legal action has been initiated against him. He allegedly tried to flee the scene after the incident and is now under police arrest.
