Bihar Assembly Election 2025: Five residents of Bihar’s Batsar village were shocked to know that they have been declared “dead” in the draft voter list prepared by the Election Commission of India (ECI) after Special Intensive Revision (SIR), a report said. The voting for the first phase of Bihar elections 2025 is to be held on Nov 6. With less than a month for the polling, the residents from the village’s booth number 216 approached BDO with a memorandum that said: “Sir, we are alive.”
The voters who have been reportedly declared dead are Mohan Sah (Serial No. 2), Sanjay Yadav (Serial No. 175), Ramroop Yadav (Serial No. 211), Narendra Kumar Das (Serial No. 364), and Vishnvar Prasad (Serial No. 380), according to a report in NDTV.
Fearing the error would take away their right to vote, these residents approached the BDO under the guidance of social worker Indradev Mandal.
BDO assures help, says names will be reinstated
The BDO has meanwhile assured help to all the five men, promising them that their names will be added to the list. The BLO has asked them to fill Form-6 and reinstate the names. He said that no eligible voter would be kept away from voting.
This was not the first time when voters declared “dead” turned up at the doors of officials. On a previous occasion, 15 such voters of Dumri village of Bagahi Panchayat in Champaran reported the matter.
Bihar assembly elections
The voting for the 243-seat Bihar assembly will take place in two phases on Nov 6 and 11, and the counting of votes will be held on Nov 14.
The new voter list, prepared after the SIR, has 7.24 crore voters after a deduction of 47 lakh voters from the previous roll. However, the ECI has said the voters, parties and social workers can still raise objections against exclusion of their names before the roll is finalised.
The Supreme Court also recently ordered the legal service authority to help voters make representation.
