Every second Friday of October is observed as World Egg Day to celebrate the power of the egg and all of its dietary and environmental advantages. According to a media report India is one of the biggest producers of eggs after China and the United States and India’s per capita consumption of eggs has increased twice in the last 20 years.
Globally eggs were consumed in a variety of ways and were abundantly available. For the same reason, various birds were also domesticated. The ostrich egg and chicken egg are the two most popular egg types consumed. Even now, most diets still include eggs due to their tremendous nutritional benefits. If we take into account the fact that eggs contain all the nutrients necessary to take a single cell and transform it into a chick, we may obtain a sense of the nutritional richness of eggs. Up to three eggs per day are safe and healthful to eat.
Here are the reasons why you should consume more eggs in your daily diet:
- Good for heart: Heart disease risk is increased by low-density lipoprotein, also referred to as LDL cholesterol or the “bad” cholesterol. Compared to the large LDL particles, the small, dense LDL particles are typically more dangerous. Eggs lessen the risk of heart disease even though they slightly increase LDL cholesterol levels because they tend to change the pattern of LDL cholesterol from dense to big.
- Maintain cholesterol: Egg consumption has been linked to higher levels of HDL (high-density lipoprotein), also referred to as “good” cholesterol. As a result, it aids with cholesterol management.
- Contains choline: Most people are unaware of the importance of choline as a nutrient. It supports the development of cell membranes as well as cardiovascular and brain health. A single egg contains roughly 100 milligrams of choline, making it a great source of the vitamin.
- Eye health: The antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin are two nutrients that can help prevent the degeneration of our eye health if we think of age as a factor. The risk of macular degeneration and cataracts has been found to be decreased by these two antioxidants, and it is well known that egg yolks contain considerable amounts of zeaxanthin and lutein.
- Weight control: Eggs provide nourishment due to their high protein content. This contributes to calorie intake reduction and supports weight loss. Breakfast with eggs can be quite beneficial for controlling weight.
