The Gorakhpur Link Expressway, a key infrastructure project by the Uttar Pradesh government, is almost complete, with 98 per cent of construction work finished. This 91.35-kilometre expressway, built at a cost of  Rs 7,283.28 crore, is set to be inaugurated in January 2025, marking a new era of connectivity and development in the region.

Connecting Gorakhpur to the Nation

The expressway links Gorakhpur to Azamgarh and further integrates with the Purvanchal Expressway, providing seamless access to Lucknow, Agra, and Delhi. Starting at the Gorakhpur Bypass NH-27 near Jaitpur village and ending at Salarpur in Azamgarh, the expressway is a marvel of engineering, overcoming the challenges of the region’s low-lying terrain.

With this expressway in place, the travel time from Gorakhpur to Lucknow will be reduced to just 3.5 hours via the Purvanchal Expressway. This enhanced connectivity is expected to improve transportation efficiency and foster economic growth across the region.

Construction Milestones Achieved

Key highlights of the expressway construction include:

  • Completion of Soil and Clearing Work: The main carriageway’s groundwork is 100 per cent finished.
  • Structures Built: Out of the 343 proposed structures, 337 are complete, with the remaining under rapid construction.

Economic Benefits for Four Districts

The expressway is set to directly benefit Gorakhpur, Ambedkarnagar, Sant Kabir Nagar, and Azamgarh districts. By enhancing connectivity, the project is expected to boost industrial, agricultural, and tourism growth in the region, fostering economic development.

Industrial Corridors Along the Expressway

The Uttar Pradesh government is also developing industrial corridors along both sides of the expressway. These corridors aim to connect agricultural zones, production units, and development centres with national markets, driving regional commerce and creating job opportunities.

The Gorakhpur Link Expressway’s controlled-access design ensures faster travel while reducing fuel consumption and environmental pollution. This project underscores the state’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure development and positions Gorakhpur as a significant transport hub.

As the Gorakhpur Link Expressway gears up for its inauguration, it symbolizes a transformative step toward improving road connectivity in Uttar Pradesh. By linking key regions and fostering economic opportunities, the expressway is poised to become a vital component of India’s growing infrastructure landscape.
