Trains along the Konkan Railway route faced interruptions on Tuesday (July 9) night due to waterlogging inside a tunnel at Pernem in Goa. According to a late-night update from the Konkan Railway, normal train operations resumed at 10:34 pm.

Earlier, a senior official had reported that four to five trains were halted at different stations due to the issue.

Baban Ghatge, Deputy General Manager of Konkan Railway Corporation (KRCL), informed PTI that trains were stopped from 3 pm onward due to water stagnation and seepage inside the tunnel at Pernem in North Goa.

“The trains on Konkan Railway route have been stopped at various places due to stagnation of water and seepage inside a tunnel at Pernem in North Goa,” Baban Ghatge said.

Indian Railways monsoon preparedness

Shobhan Chaudhuri, General Manager of Northern Railway, had convened a crucial review meeting at the Northern Railway headquarters in New Delhi last month with departmental heads and Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) in preparation for the upcoming monsoon season. The meeting centered on improving safety, punctuality, and operational efficiency throughout the railway network.

Additionally, the Western and Central Railways had also affirmed their readiness to ensure continuous train services throughout the monsoon season. Senior railway officials announced on June 29 that both CR and WR have completed comprehensive pre-monsoon preparations for railway infrastructure, including tracks, mechanical, signalling, and electrical systems.
