Jammu Railway Station is on high alert and has reviewed all the security measures in response to a recent terrorist attack, officials said. The annual Amarnath Yatra is slated to commence later this month, and railways authorities are making sure to take all the precautionary steps in advance.
The meeting was headed by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Railways, Shailendra Singh, and included representatives of security agencies as well as officers from Government Railway Police, Jammu. The main focus of the meeting was to strengthen the security forces at the Jammu railway station to prevent any mishap during the pilgrimage.
A joint police control room at the railway station will be set up, it was decided at the meeting, as officials mentioned. The SSP asserted that the primary task for now is to boost interaction and cooperation between various security agencies deployed at the railway station. ‘’The tie-up will aid security personnel to refrain from any terrorist activities and ward off any attempts by the anti-national elements in disguising themselves,’’ Singh further added.
The holy expedition which includes a 52-day yatra to the 3,880-metre-high Amarnath cave shrine, located in the south of the Himalayas is set to begin from two routes on June 29. Devotees from all over the country will begin their pilgrimage journey from the Jammu base camp.
A high level of security has been beefed up because of the four consecutive terrorist attacks that happened in Reasi, Doda districts, and Kathua over four days earlier. These terrorist attacks resulted in the deaths of nine pilgrims and one CRPF jawan. Several people and seven security personnel were also injured. As per the latest report, two suspected Pakistani terrorists were also killed in the encounter with the security forces in Kathua.
