About Southern Railway
Southern Railway (SR) is one of the nineteen zones of Indian Railways and is headquartered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It operates across the states of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and the union territory of Puducherry.
If we talk about the origin of the Southern Railway, it can be traced back to the Madras Railway (formed in 1845). On 14 April 1951, Southern Railway was created by merging three state railways, namely, the South Indian Railway Company, the Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway, and the Mysore State Railway.
Southern Railway takes care of about 5,081 kilometres of railway lines. It has 727 railway stations under it.
