US B1/B2 visa: A couple from India has shared their experience of being refused a B1/B2 visa for the third time, despite a strong financial and travel background. The couple detailed their ordeal on Reddit, expressing frustration and disappointment at the process.

Interview Details and Background

The couple, who applied for the visa in Kolkata after 1.5 years, shared that they have traveled together to Dubai and Indonesia in the past year. The husband had previously studied in New Zealand in 2015 for a one-year course. He owns a web design firm earning 2.5 lakh per month and 30 lakh annually, while his wife owns a salon with earnings of 2 lakh per month and 24 lakh annually.

The couple explained, “The officer was giving visas to everyone but they were not giving to people from north. Interview was in Kolkata. He asked 5 questions in total: purpose of travel, what I do, what my wife does, do I own any property — which was yes, 5 acres. After that, he refused and told that US laws are very strict these days, blah blah, and said that we will get a chance; that he has seen some refusals and told us to apply after a few years.”

Concerns Over US Visa Process

The couple expressed confusion and frustration about the visa process, questioning why applications are accepted and fees charged if many applicants are considered ineligible. “Very devastated by them,” they wrote.

This incident highlights the challenges faced by Indian applicants, particularly from northern regions, in securing B1/B2 visas amid increasingly strict US immigration policies.
