The first trainset of Meerut Metro reached the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) Depot in Ghaziabad’s Duhai on Wednesday.
To establish a robust public transportation system in the metropolitan city, the trainset of three indigenous cars was transported on large trailers and was unloaded for assembly and testing process.
“The Made-in-India Meerut Metro trainsets, with their modern design, are energy efficient, lightweight, and equipped with a regenerative braking system compatible with Automatic Train Protection (ATP), Automatic Train Control (ATC), and Automatic Train Operations (ATO),” NCRTC mentioned on the microblogging platform X.
Notably, for the first time in the country, both high-speed regional trains Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro will run on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS infrastructure.

With the corridor length of 23 km (18 km elevated and 5 km underground), the Meerut Metro consists 13 stations. Among these stations, nine are elevated, three are underground, and one is situated at grade, serving as the depot station. With the arrival of the trainset, the trial runs of the Meerut Metro will take place soon.

Designed with three-car trainsets, the Metro design boasts a state-of-the-art aesthetic approach, enabling optimised passenger safety, comfort, and security. Further, it is equipped with modern, light-weight stainless steel coaches, comfortable standing space, luggage racks, CCTV cameras, a mobile charging facility, and dynamic route maps.
For entertainment purposes, it also has an infotainment system, an illumination-based auto-control ambient lighting system and other amenities.
Recently, the first look of the Meerut Metro trainset was unveiled by the MD of NCRTC Vinay Kumar Singh. Further, Alstom, the rolling stock manufacturer, has handed over the first trainset to NCRTC at Savli, Gujarat.
This unveiling and the commencement of the delivery of Meerut Metro will seamlessly integrate the RRTS and metro services within Meerut, allowing for closer headways and increased service frequency.
