San Francisco-based private transportation app Uber has launched its Centre of Excellence (CoE) facility in Hyderabad that will employ more than 500 customer care executives to provide support for seamless experience.
The initiative, claimed to be the first-of-its-kind facility in Asia, is part of a prior MoU that Uber signed with the Telangana government in July last year to invest $50 million in the state. According to the MoU signed last year, Uber will collaborate with The Telangana Academy for Skills and Knowledge (TASK) to identify and train over 2,000 candidates by the end of 2016.
Uber has already hired close to 30% of the total team strength and has started support operations from its Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad. “We are excited to unveil Uber’s centre of excellence in Hyderabad that will be the heart of customer response for our India operations. The government of Telangana has shown great vision in supporting innovative technology companies and continues to remain an ideal location to do business. We are thrilled to set up this facility here that will generate quality employment opportunities in the state,” said Amit Jain, president, Uber India.
According to media reports, Uber is also planning to launch its own wallet to allow commuters pay via its own wallet.
Its competitor Ola had launched its wallet three months ago. However, Uber India spokesperson denied of any such progress saying the company currently is continuing with its partnerships with Paytm and Airtel Money for payments.
“We’re delighted that the world’s most valued technology company has invested in Hyderabad and will generate over 500 jobs, which will have a positive impact on the state and the economy as a whole,” said K T Rama Rao, IT minister, Telanagana, who inaugurated the facility.
