Paytm, payment app with claimed user base of 126 million, saw a drop in monthly usage in April 2016 compared to December 2015, according to a study by Nielsen Informate Mobile Insights, reports Hita Gupta in New Delhi.

However, its closest competitor, the Snapdeal-owned Freecharge saw usage rising during the same period. On Paytm app, an average user spent 56 minutes in April against 70 minutes in December. In the case of Freecharge, a user spent 55 minutes in April, up from 40 minutes in December. Another payment app, MobiKwik emerged as the third most engaging app with a user spending 31 minutes per month in April from 29 minutes in December.

Paytm, FreeCharge and MobiKwik continue to hold the bulk share of the payment app market in the country. While user base of Paytm against total payment app users scaled marginally to 40% from 39% in December, Freecharge jumped to 30% followed by 20% from MobiKwik.
