Electric two-wheeler maker Ather Energy on Friday unveiled its next-generation ‘EL’ platform, its first new architecture since the 450 series, at the third edition of Ather Community Day 2025. The launch was accompanied by a suite of technological upgrades, including AI-powered voice interactions and faster charging solutions.

The EL platform is built on a single aluminium-steel frame that can be scaled across three body types to target different customer segments. By contrast, the existing 450 series architecture uses 16 separate components built on a stainless steel frame. The transition to a single-component architecture, with greater commonality across models, is expected to enable 15% faster assembly while cutting production costs.“With the EL platform, we are laying the foundation for Ather’s next phase of growth. Just as the 450 defined our first chapter, EL will define the next, enabling us to develop multiple types of scooters at scale far more efficiently,” said Tarun Mehta, co-founder and CEO of Ather Energy.

Mehta added that the company does not plan to immediately phase out its current 450 series and Rizta models. The platform’s scalable design is also expected to boost serviceability. According to Ather, routine servicing can now be completed up to twice as fast, with service intervals extended to 10,000 km. These operational efficiencies come as the company gears up to expand production at its new facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.

Engineering efficiency: The ‘EL’ platform’s scalable design

Alongside hardware, Ather unveiled ‘AtherStack 7.0’, its latest software platform featuring AI-powered voice interaction. The update also introduces ‘Pothole Alerts’, which leverages data from Ather’s nationwide fleet to warn riders of rough road conditions, as well as new security features such as remote vehicle control via the Ather mobile app.

To support faster charging, the company launched its next-generation 6kW fast chargers, which are half the size of current units but deliver twice the speed—adding up to 30 km of range in just 10 minutes for select models. As of June 30, Ather operates 4,032 fast and neighbourhood chargers worldwide, including 3,997 in India and 35 across Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Pushing Boundaries with upgrades

The company also announced feature upgrades for its existing lineup. The 2025 Ather 450 Apex will debut ‘Infinite Cruise’, an advanced cruise control system designed specifically for Indian road conditions. Meanwhile, the Rizta Z will gain touchscreen functionality activated through over-the-air (OTA) updates.Ather also showcased ‘Redux’, a concept vehicle blending scooter agility with motorcycle dynamics, highlighting its future design philosophy. The company, however, did not commit to a launch timeline for the concept.
