The Delhi High Court on Tuesday in an interim order stayed a government notification that banned manufacture and sale of US drugmaker Abbott’s cough syrup sold under the Phensedyl brand name, and domestic company Macleods Pharmaceuticals’ Panderm Plus, a combination anti-fungal cream.

Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw also directed the government not to take any coercive steps against the two pharma companies in pursuant to the government notification of March 10 banning the manufacture, sale and distribution for human use of 350-odd fixed dose combination (FDC) drugs. “I do not see a reason why interim relief should not be granted to the pharmaceutical companies.” said Justice Endlaw, while granting stay on the notification to the companies.

On Monday, the HC granted similar reprieve to the Indian unit of US drugmaker Pfizer.
