The India Chapter of the International Road Federation (IRF), a global road safety body working for better and safer roads has joined hands with PVR INOX, one of the largest cinema exhibitors in India under the ‘Forum for coalition of public-private partners in road safety’ to collaborate and co-work towards promoting and improving road safety.
As per the agreement, more than 1,700 PVR cinemas across the nation will screen the road safety anthem and a film ‘Rehana’ produced by IRF based on the theme of quickly shifting the accident victim to the hospital instead of making a video of the victim produced by IRF. These reels will be shown in PVR cinemas from January 19 till January 25, 2024.
K K Kapila, President Emeritus, International Road Federation (IRF) said, “We have joined hands with the PVR cinema group under a ‘Forum for coalition of public-private partners in road safety’ which was signed with various corporates and NGO’s to collaborate and work together to promote and improve road safety scenarios in the country. The ‘Forum for Coalition of Public-Private Partners in Road Safety” was launched under the umbrella of International Road Federation (IRF) India Chapter in the presence of Jean Todt, UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety a few months back.”
He further said that all partners will work towards road safety as a shared responsibility and commit to actively contribute to the improvement of road safety.
“Partners agree to collect and analyse accurate and reliable data on road accidents, injuries, and fatalities to identify trends, risk factors, and areas of improvement. Partners commit to raising public awareness about road safety through educational campaigns, training programs, and dissemination of information on safe driving practices.”
Deepa Menon, SVP Corp Comm & CSR, PVR Inox said, “Besides making road safety an integral part of its training program, a Public Service Awareness (PSA) film will be being screened in its theatres across India. These initiatives form a part of its commitment of working towards Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Target 3.6 set by the United Nations that aims to reduce global deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents by half by 2030.“
The partner in the coalition agreement includes – MORTH, Maruti Suzuki India, Military Engineering Services (MES), AIIMS, 3M India, World Bank, PVR, DRDO, Motolance, Netradyne, Avery, Dennison, MBM university, Grandpitstop, Intel Technology, and CRRI.
About 150 employees of PVR cinemas were also provided training for road safety and for improving emergency response systems to ensure timely and effective medical assistance to accident victims.
