According to Cointelegraph, the Tennessee House Banking and Consumer Affairs subcommittee passed a new bill on February 13, 2024. It is believed that the new bill will protect musicians against abuse by artificial intelligence (AI).

Sources revealed that the Ensuring Likeness Voice and Image Security Act (HB 2091)( ELVIS), was introduced by Bill Lee, state’s governor, in January 2024. The bill is expected to find out unethical uses of AI. This can include unauthorised use of artists’ voice, image and likeness, among others.

“When a machine can take songs born from a lifetime of my experiences and produce a record that an artist never authorized, never even sang, resulting in a fake version release without permission or payment, that is wrong, that is theft, and we need to protect against it,” Jamie Moore, board member,  Nashville Songwriter Association and songwriter, explained.

The subcommittee’s approval of the bill is expected to come after support from Harvey Mason Jr, CEO, Recording Academy, on No AI Fraud Act, a federal bill . This bill includes protections for artists in the context of AI, concluded Cointelegraph.
