The Federal Court of Canada mentioned that an emergency law that gave the government power to stem the flow of funds and crypto to support protesting truckers was unreasonable and unconstitutional.
Sources revealed that on January 23, 2024, Justice Richard Mosley concluded “there was no national emergency justifying the invocation of the Emergencies Act and the decision to do so was therefore unreasonable.”
It is believed that the Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA), the Canadian Constitution Foundation, and other groups challenged the government’s use of the emergency law to freeze the flow of funds. They are believed to argue that it was unnecessary and unconstitutional, added Cointelegraph.
Furthermore, the CCLA mentioned that it “sets a clear and critical precedent for every future government,”Cointelegraph concluded.
