The central focus of the summit, articulated through the “Algiers Declaration,” is to reaffirm the commitment of member countries to the responsible stewardship of natural gas resources. This declaration, slated to be issued on March 2, will serve as a guiding document for advancing the shared objectives of the GECF, including the promotion of sustainable development and the enhancement of global energy security.

Significance of the Summit

At the heart of the GECF’s mission is the recognition of natural gas as a vital component of the global energy mix. With its lower carbon footprint compared to other fossil fuels, natural gas plays a crucial role in the transition to a more sustainable and environmentally responsible energy system. The Algiers Declaration will thus underscore the forum’s advocacy for the continued utilization of natural gas as a clean and reliable source of energy.

The summit will convene Heads of State, ministers, and senior officials from the 12 member countries of the GECF, as well as representatives from 7 observer countries. This diverse gathering of stakeholders reflects the inclusive nature of the forum and its commitment to fostering dialogue and cooperation on energy-related issues.

The Summit will be attended by Heads of state, ministers and senior officials from the 12 member countries including Bolivia, Algeria, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, United Arab Emirates and Venezuela. And seven GECF observer countries including Peru, Iraq, Angola, Azerbaijan, Malaysia, Mauritania, and Mozambique.

In addition to formal proceedings, the summit will feature a series of scientific, technical, and diplomatic activities aimed at deepening understanding and collaboration within the natural gas industry. One of the highlights will be the inauguration of the GECF’s Gas Research Institute (GRI) headquarters in Algiers. This state-of-the-art facility will serve as a hub for research, innovation, and knowledge exchange, driving advancements in gas technology and best practices.

The launch of the latest edition of the GECF’s Global Gas Outlook 2050 will provide valuable insights into the future trajectory of global gas markets. By examining trends, challenges, and opportunities, this publication will inform policy decisions and investment strategies, guiding the way towards a more sustainable and resilient energy future.

Furthermore, the summit will facilitate the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the GECF and key international and regional organizations. These agreements will strengthen collaboration and partnership efforts, fostering innovation and cooperation across borders.

The 7th GECF Summit in Algiers represents a milestone in the ongoing journey towards a more sustainable and secure energy future. Through dialogue, collaboration, and shared vision, member countries will work together to address the challenges and opportunities facing the natural gas industry, ensuring that it continues to play a central role in powering the world’s economy while safeguarding the planet for future generations.
