Defence sources claimed that India successfully conducted a second consecutive day of testing of the Vertical Launch Short Range Surface to Air Missile (VLSRSAM) on Friday from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur on the Odisha coast.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) confirmed in a statement that the two tests conducted on September 12 and 13 were successful. “In both the tests, the missile successfully intercepted a high-speed low altitude aerial target mimicking a sea skimming aerial target,” the statement said.
As per the statement, the missile demonstrated its accuracy and capacity to neutralise targets.
The Indian Navy, DRDO, and other related teams were praised by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for the successful flight testing. He also remarked that the Armed Forces will benefit from an additional technological boost from this missile’s current technology.
For safety considerations, the Balasore district administration temporarily moved 3,100 residents from six villages within a 2.5 km radius of ITR Launch Pad 3.
A revenue official said these precautions were taken in consultation with the ITR authorities at Chandipur. This comes after the VLSRSAM missile successfully engaged another low-altitude target during the test conducted earlier on Thursday. These successive testing not only confirm the weapon system’s dependability but also the efficacy of the most recent modifications made to its numerous parts.
