India and the European Union convened in Brussels on Thursday, October 5, 2023, for the 3rd edition of the India-EU Maritime Security Dialogue. Their primary focus was to maintain a secure maritime environment that fosters inclusive growth and global well-being.

During the dialogue, both parties reviewed their ongoing cooperative endeavors in the maritime sector and explored ways to fortify international and regional mechanisms for comprehensive maritime security. They delved into areas of cooperation that included combating illicit maritime activities, enforcing maritime laws, and enhancing their capabilities in this domain. Additionally, they discussed the improvement of maritime domain awareness and eagerly anticipated future maritime engagements between India and the EU.

Earlier in the day, the two sides engaged in the Seventh India-EU Cyber Dialogue. This dialogue, part of their vibrant Strategic Partnership, served as a platform to discuss various cyberspace-related issues. They exchanged perspectives on cyber policies, strategies, mutual interests, and explored avenues for cyber cooperation in international forums, including the United Nations, as well as regional settings such as OSCE, ARF, and G20.

Furthermore, they discussed the importance of capacity building in cyberspace and jointly combatting the criminal misuse of information and communication technologies.

The Indian delegation, headed by Ms. Muanpuii Saiawi, Joint Secretary for Disarmament & International Security Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs, met with the EU delegation led by Ambassador (Ms.) Joanneke Balfoort, Director for Security and Defence Policy, European External Action Service.
