In a remarkable fusion of endurance and patriotism, The Hell Race: The Border Chapter (Jaisalmer-Laungewala), organized by Hell Race Adventures, took place on December 14-15, 2024, to honour the sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces on Vijay Diwas. This annual event, held against the stunning desert backdrop of Jaisalmer, commemorated the heroic actions of the Indian military during the 1971 Indo-Pak War, a pivotal moment in India’s history.
With nearly 900 participants—including serving soldiers, veterans, and civilians—the event highlighted the resilience and courage of those who serve in the armed forces. Runners took on three endurance categories: 50 km, 100 km, and the gruelling 161 km (100 miles), with both men and women pushing their physical and mental limits across challenging desert terrain.
The race kicked off at the Indira Indoor Stadium in Jaisalmer at dawn, with participants facing the harsh desert landscape on their journey toward Laungewala Yudh Sthal. This historic location, the site of the iconic Battle of Laungewala, was a fitting end-point for the race, as it symbolized the bravery and sacrifice of soldiers who fought in the 1971 war.
At the conclusion of the event, a flag-in ceremony was held, where Maj Gen Ashish Khurana, General Officer Commanding of the Battle Axe Division, presented awards to the top finishers. In his address, Maj Gen Khurana emphasized the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by the armed forces while applauding the participants for their dedication and endurance.
The event was not just a physical challenge, but a heartfelt tribute to the valour, unity, and resilience that define the spirit of the Indian Armed Forces. As runners and spectators alike reflected on the sacrifices of the past, the celebrations that followed reaffirmed a collective sense of pride and gratitude for the heroes who safeguard the nation.
