Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (NSCBI) is celebrating a historic milestone as it marks 100 years of flight operations. To commemorate this centenary, a grand celebration has been organized. Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu will be inaugurating this event.
The airport director, Pravat Ranjan Beuria, expressed his excitement at this remarkable achievement, highlighting the airport’s crucial role in Indian aviation since its establishment in 1924. ‘’It is a matter of great pleasure that the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport is celebrating 100 years of operational excellence, ‘’ he stated, underlining the transformative activities and advancements in flight operations over the decades.

The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has taken a lot of initiative to honour this historic occasion, like releasing commemorative stamp, coin and has also launched a coffee table book. The book showcases India’s cultural heritage as depicted in the airport’s modern architecture. Moreover, a photo gallery documenting the airport’s rich history will also be launched. One of the standout features is the unveiling of a budget-friendly café named UDAN Yatri Cafe. This pilot project aims to enhance the travel experience by providing quality food at affordable prices. This initiative has been taken in respect of the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s vision to offer greater convenience to passengers.


Notable dignitaries like Murlidhar Mohol, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, Vipin Kumar, Chairman of Airports Authority of India, and Prof.Saugata Roy, Member of Parliament will be present to mark the centenary celebration.

The NSCBI Airport is spread over an area of 1,566.3 acres, caters to 26 million passengers annually, and connects to 49 domestic and 15 international destinations. The airport has been a symbol of resilience and progress, evolving from its humble beginnings as Dum Dum Airport in 1924 to transforming into an aviation hub of national significance. The airport was renamed in 1995 to honour Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
As Kolkata Airport celebrates 100 years of service, it continues to be a symbol of innovation and a reflection of the city’s vibrant spirit, positioning itself as one of the world’s premier aviation hubs.
