A widespread global computer outage on Friday caused significant technical and operational disruptions for several Indian airlines, leading to the cancellation of nine IndiGo Airlines flights at Swami Vivekananda Airport in Raipur. The affected flights included five departures and four arrivals, according to airport officials.
Details of Affected Flights
The cancelled departures were flights to Bengaluru (19:55 hrs), Kolkata (20:45 hrs), Hyderabad (20:55 hrs), Mumbai (21:05 hrs), and Delhi (21:20 hrs). Details regarding delayed flights were not disclosed by the officials.
Five flights from Raipur to Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Delhi, and four arrival flights, all belonging to IndiGo, have been cancelled following the IT outage, an airport official told PTI.
Passengers at the airport expressed frustration over the lack of updates from airport authorities and airlines. Suruchi Shrivastav, a passenger from Raipur, shared her distress as she was scheduled to travel to Mumbai for her son’s chemotherapy session.
“The chemotherapy is scheduled for Monday. My husband, son, and I were scheduled to reach Mumbai tonight and complete hospital formalities over the next two days. Now I don’t know what to do next. The airport authority and IndiGo have not been giving any updates, which is more troubling,” Shrivastav said.
Another passenger, Aditya, who was scheduled to fly to Kolkata, reported receiving a message about the flight delay and subsequent cancellation but noted that no information was provided about alternate arrangements.
In an update on X, IndiGo acknowledged the disruption caused by the outage. “Our systems are currently impacted by a Microsoft outage, which is also affecting other companies. During this time booking, check-in, access to your boarding pass, and some flights may be impacted,” the airline said.
“We are all hands-on decks and are working to restore stability and normalcy. Our digital team is also coordinating closely with Microsoft Azure to resolve these issues swiftly,” IndiGo stated.
