Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia inaugurated the newly developed infrastructure of Tezu Airport in Arunachal Pradesh on September 24.

Newly developed infrastructure at Tezu airport

The Tezu airport, developed on 212 acres of land, operates a single runway and is capable of handling operations for ATR 72 type of aircraft. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) took the development and upgradation work to operationalise Tezu Airport at the request of the State Government. This work was undertaken for Rs 170 crore and includes the extension of runway, the construction of a new apron for 02 nos. ATR 72 type aircraft, construction of a new terminal building, and a fire station cum ATC Tower. 

North East ‘HIRA’ of India

Scindia said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made North-East India the ‘HIRA” of India. HIRA translates to Highway, Internet, Railway and Aviation , four core components enabling holistic and inclusive development of the region. He also discussed the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) – UDAN which has benefitted the region magnificently. As per Scindia,  over 2.50 lakh UDAN flights have helped more than 1.37 crore people travel under the scheme.

Three direct routes from Itanagar

The civil aviation minister also announced three direct routes from Itnanagar under the UDAN 5.0 scheme. The flights will fly on Itanagar-Delhi, Itanagar-Jorahat, and Itanagar-Rupsi routes.

Tezu Airport

Under the RCS UDAN scheme of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Tezu airport was operationalised in 2018 and is currently linked to Dibrugarh, Imphal and Guwahati through regular scheduled flights by Alliance Air & Flybig Airline.

Features of the Terminal building

The terminal area is spread in an area measuring 4000 square metres and has a capacity of serving 300 passengers during peak hour. Currently, there are 5 check-in counters which will increase to 8 in future.

PM Modi welcomes Tezu Airport upgradation

Prime Minister Modi on Sunday welcomed the newly developed infrastructure at the Tezu Airport.
