The inauguration of the new Link Building connecting Terminals T1 and T2 at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar signifies a significant advancement in passenger convenience and operational efficiency. The inauguration event, attended by V.K. Singh, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, and other dignitaries.
Spanning 3360 sqm, this new facility seamlessly bridges T1 and T2, enabling passengers at the International Terminal (T-2) to access Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBB) located in the Domestic Terminal (T-1). This integration caters to the requirements of international airlines and elevates the overall passenger experience.
Key features of link building
Key features of the Link Building include a ground floor Arrival hall equipped with arrival belts and customs facilities, essential for passenger services. The first floor hosts 12 immigration counters and is connected to T1 through an airside corridor, facilitating smooth passenger flow between terminals.
Designed with sustainability in mind, the Link Building incorporates features such as insulated roofing for thermal regulation, energy-efficient LED lighting, and glazing to minimise heat transfer. The glass facade, adorned with motifs inspired by the Konark Sun Temple, and earthy interior tones celebrate the region’s cultural heritage.
The completion of the Link Building, coupled with the construction of two rotundas for Passenger Boarding Bridge (PBB) installation at T-1, highlights the Airports Authority of India’s commitment to expanding aviation infrastructure.
The total construction cost of Rs 87.21 crore reflects investments aimed at enhancing airport facilities to meet passenger demands and ensure a seamless travel experience.
