Finance Minister Nirmala Sithraman is currently presenting her sixth consecutive budget. Starting her speech, the minister said that four groups — the poor, youth, women and farmers — hold the highest priority for the government. She also talked about the economy, women participation in the workforce, PMAY-G and ‘youth power’ in sport, among other things.
Sitharaman on economy
The Finance Minister noted that the economy gained renewed vigor through structural reforms, pro-people programs, and the creation of employment opportunities. She stressed that the Indian economy saw profound transformation in the last 10 years. Reflecting back to 2014, she said that the country was faced with enormous challenges and the government overcame all those challenges and undertook structural reforms along with pro people reforms.
