Union Finance Minister Nirmal Sitharaman on Thursday presented the interim Union Budget 2024-25 and said that the government is working to make India a developed country by 2047.

Speaking in the new Parliament, the finance minister said that the “poor, women, youth and farmers are the four castes” for the Narendra Modi-led government.

She also said that the government is focusing on addressing the systemic inequalities in the country, while asserting that the focus is on “outcomes and not outlays”.

“Our government will adopt economic policies that foster and sustain growth, facilitate inclusive and sustainable development, improve productivity, create opportunities for all, help them enhance their capabilities and contribute to generation of resources to power investments and fulfil aspirations,” the finance minister said.

She also said that with the approach of ‘Sabka Prayas’, the country had overcome the challenges posed by the country towards Atmanirbhar Bharat and laid a “solid foundation for Amrit Kal”.

Earlier, the Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday approved the interim budget 2024-25, that is being presented ahead of the Lok Sabha election that is scheduled in April-May this year.

The interim budget 2024-25 will be a vote-on-account that will give the government authority to spend certain sums of money till new government is formed ahead of the polls.
