The Central Ground Water Authority has fixed the April 9 deadline for mandatory installation for water meter on registered and permitted tubewells and borewells in the notified areas of Gurgaon.
While stating this deputy commissioner of Gurgaon PC Meena appealed to the consumers to install water meters before the CGWA deadline. The tubewell owners were asked to intimate the DC of installation of water meter in addition to keeping the record with them so that audit of extraction of ground water can be done.
Meena said strict action would be taken against the violators and their tubewell and borewells would be sealed under Environment Protection Act.1986. He also stressed that the storm water drainage system should be made mandatory for the owners of houses or buildings having roof top area of more than 100 square meters. Similarly, the large industries should have their independent treatment plants for treating the effluents coming out their units.
It may be recalled that taking the fast depletion of water table in Gurgaon, the Punjab and Haryana HC has passed an order in CWP 20032/08 on December 24, 2010 the water of borewells could be used only for domestic and drinking purposes. The drinking water provider agencies in Gurgaon are restrained to dig any new borewell without the permission of High Court.
