With an aim to implement his vision of doubling the speed on the roads, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has asked senior government officials to prepare a blueprint to reduce the distance between the state capital, Lucknow, and the national capital with a new expressway, prepare a feasibility report to connect Lucknow to neighbouring Nepal via Bahraich, connect Rae Bareli with Allahabad with a four-lane road and also connect all district headquarters with the state capital by four-lane roads.
The CM has asked the officials to submit the feasibility reports at the earliest, adding that ??if there is any problem, the officials of the National Highway Authority of India should be consulted??.
Issuing the directives at a high-level meeting, in which he took stock of all the pending and ongoing projects of the public works department, tourism and forest ministries, the chief minister has ordered a major overhaul of the infrastructure projects in the state.
Interestingly, he also directed the officials to expedite work on all bridges and roads, work on which had started in the earlier SP regime, that is prior to May 2007, and also complete work on all such projects which had been started by his predecessor Mayawati within one year.
??Projects whose foundation stones were laid in 2007, or in the previous BSP regime and which are still pending, should be completed within one year,?? Yadav is reported to have said.
