A portable speaker is an ideal accessory to your laptop if you are too much into travelling and are passionate for PC gaming. Razer has mustered out an ideal device in Razer Ferox, a fresh-looking pint sized dual speaker set, generating sturdy sound, and can be packed and carried around in a bag. It comes with a carrying case too, to keep the cables intact when not in use.
Razer Ferox speaker is black in colour and resemble small cups with matte finish. In the upper portion, there is a grilled resonance chamber, which produces a 360 degree omni-directional sound, and has a big push button, which covers the entire top, with a marked logo of Razer on it. The bottom has a rubber grip to hold it steady on any surface and has a LED ring around it, which glows blue when Ferox is on. The battery is en suite and charges via USB. It is compatible with all portable media players and laptops and has a 3.5 mm universal jack.
Handling the dual speaker is simple and takes hardly a few moves. It connects via USB ports built-in the speakers and a 3.5 mm audio jack at the other end of the cable to go into your source device that can be a PC, laptop or phone. The cable may appear small if you want to spread the speakers, but that has been taken care of via a long attachment cable. Ferox starts when the top is pressed down, opening the resonance grill. Pressing is easy and comfortable. To hush it, just press the top again till it closes.
We used the speaker with PC games, movies and songs, and found the output loud and strong. However, it is more appropriate in a gaming scenario than any other. Thanks to its 360 degree sound flow and bass effect, it can fit in any nook and corner of your room. With bass, they have enough energy in them, which can be felt when you play fast racing games on your PC.
The dual speaker can produce sound at a frequency between 150 Hz to 20 kHz, which is almost equal to that of Genius SP-i160, a single speaker with good looks, and costs only 1k. In case you want a portable dual speaker, you can try Altec Lansing BXR1220, priced at 1.2k. Overall, Ferox is a good dual speaker with a few let-downs, one of which is the price.
